MERIT The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Foundation and Concealer Stick — Review, Shades & Price

Sadly this is not the perfect concealer like I’d hoped! The neutral shade is also far too yellow for my skin tone, which is glaringly obvious when I use it just as a concealer. I’ll try using it as a full-face product and see if that helps. It also was surprisingly extremely drying on my skin. Packaging is beautiful and I like the idea of a stick product but did not work for me.

The reason I got this is that it was finally a perfect shade match for me, which I couldn't find in several other brands of concealer like Rare Beauty that all didn't have my undertone. One and done

I’ve been using the for about 3 years now and have to say, the level of pore perfecting and blurring that this provides is insane. I use a moisturizer, sunscreen, primer, then this on top. It’s total chefs kiss, and I haven’t wanted to switch foundations ever since I began using this. It’s slightly off in shade, but this shade was the closest to my forehead shade and mid face shade.

Great formula, neutral not neutral

LOVE the Merit Foundation Stick & Flush Balm Blush

Absolutely LOVE the Merit Minimalist Foundation Stick (shade Dune) and the Flush Balm Cream Blush (shade Stockholm). At Sephora they explained how vital it is to use the Merit serum and moisturizer first and they were so right! My 65yr old skin is oh so happy! Definitely recommend!

Won’t repurchase

I have textured skin and some days it looks pretty smooth but other days it looks bad as soon as I put it on. I do like the coverage as a concealer. I did purchase the merit makeup brush and primer. The primer doesn’t seem to make it stay on longer and the brush is awkwardly small and I don’t think it would work for any other foundation

Really does it all in an elegant way

Personally obsessed. Shades very friendly for an Asian - note the rest of the review is based on the fact that I did find my perfect color. Very buildable results that blends seamlessly and stays natural from specific area coverage to full face foundation use, even when blending with fingers on the go. Exactly what I need when traveling and low maintenance days - something that does it all elegantly. For times that I have stronger blemishes, I'd still use a fuller concealer on top though.

TL/DR: Perfect for dry skin!! I absolutely ADORE this concealer/foundation stick. I simply use a moisture milk (either Laneige or Ilia) to prime and gently pat this into my skin and it gives the PERFECT makeup no makeup look! Super easy to blend! It is also very very creamy. I have normal skin that gets more dry in the winter so it works for me. It also covers my acne pretty well!

Product Fell Out

Once the stick broke it started falling out of the container every other time I used it, so by the third or 4th time of it falling out (at least one time to the floor) I decided to throw it away due to sanitation reasons. Other than that it was a good concealer/foundation.

Nice but not great coverage

I love the simplicity of this, and how it blends and how it feels on my skin. But I don’t find it has a lot of coverage. Will not cover my redness or rosacea. It’s okay for day to day use but would not use for any special occasions you really want to cover up your imperfections.

I wanted to love this product. It was so excited to try it. The coverage was great, but I found that in some areas on my face, the makeup would almost sit on my skin versus being absorbed, and it dried out my skin (normally combo)I ended up returning it.

The Minimalist is one of my favorite product from Merit. I’ve been using it for a long time, I love that is so practical, easy to blend with your fingers and for me it last long time. I recommend it a lot, I use it for me every day makeup.

Not great

I don't believe this this product is for mature of dry skin. It is certainly not suitable for foundation. A concealer stick, yes. It is quite thick and I don't find the bendability that great. I'm only 38 but I didn't feel it was flattering or what I was looking for.

One of the best foundations I’ve used in recent years. It blends beautifully and doesn’t crease on me at all. It has a nice satin finish and the coverage is not too light and not too heavy. I also found I don’t need to use very much so either so this should last me a long time.

I have only used this about five times but I am so happy with the way it looks on my mature dry skin! The shade is perfect and the line has a terrific shade range.

unfortunately, this is so good :,)) i don't even need to use a primer or setting powder for it and it sits so well on my skin for so long! i do make sure to prep my skin as well as set it lightly in the places i use it with setting soray and a brush, but i overall love this product <3

This product was my go-to. Figured I would wear it for years. Beautiful on my rosacea, sensitive, reactive, textured and dry skin. But, the packaging is horrible. I really enjoy the simplicity of the design. It is a thick formula but it melts into the skin and really does cover up quite a bit. you could layer this for more full coverage. I will say, if you lean more towards dry skin, you may not like it. I recently started tretnoin and I'm going through the dry flaky skin phase of my skin getting used to it. Wanted to love it but…

I’ve seen so many people recommend this concealer and I was so excited to try it however this product is not made for true pale girlies. New found holy grail!

I had been eyeing this for a while and pulled the trigger after Christmas, and am immediately very happy that I did! I put it on under my eyes with no other makeup (just wearing moisturizer) and was blown away by the full, yet natural coverage. It instantly hid my under eyes and was very blendable, I just used my ring finger to spread the coverage out. An instant favorite in my makeup bag that I cant wait to add to my daily routine!

My New Fave Concealer

This is perfect for that no makeup - makeup look! I’ve really enjoyed this concealer, I typically use tarte but I’m glad the rep helped me pick this one out! My only issue is that it sets in the lines under my eyes, but setting it with powder has helped

Not a favorite

I wanted to love this, but it just feels cakey and creases easily. It covers ok initially, but settles into lines and pores so that within an hour or two, it does not look good anymore and it feels heavy.

got shade matched in store and this was perfect! i use just a little under the eyes and around my nose and it goes on sooo creamy. i love the packaging and perfect for on the go.

Has potential but a miss for me

I love the ease of use and that's it's a multitasking product but I find that it's too cakey and drying. I would love to see them come out with a formulation that's more hydrating for mature skin. The shade Oak (light - cool) is more of a light-medium shade, definitely not light. I actually thought this would be slightly lighter than my complexion but it's about two shades darker. I would recommend anyone buying this to test the shades in person.

I bought into the hype and had to try this. Sadly, I find it hard to blend and it seems to accentuate any dryness. Coverage is only plus

Wanted to love this, but was so hard to blend because it is such a dry formula. I was expecting it to be creamier. It settled into any lines and made wrinkles and any texture very noticeable.

This works really well for my skin type, especially because I use face oil under my make up as primer rather than a traditional primer or lotion. Game changer

This is seriously the best makeup product I use daily. I have acne prone skin and a bunch of post-acne marks that I like to cover up everyday. You really can’t tell when you have it on it is so beyond light. I also have super sensitive skin and haven’t had any problems with it whatsoever. I totally reccomend to anyone.

The exact shade I needed and I like the formula. I think it blends well as long as I have sufficiently moisturized. Always moisturize before applying color to your face! I am working towards fewer, higher-end products. This one fits that bill.

Wanted to love so badly but it’s YELLOW…

I’m a light medium skin tone and even got a lighter shade that my skin color and yet every single time I wear this, I look mustard yellow. It’s not even “warm” it’s straight up yellow. Emphasizes texture and pores and creases.

Great add to my collection

I purchased this because I needed a stick foundation for initially Halloween but also for travel. I was pleasantly surprised! I love that it is lightweight and coverage is buildable. Plays well with my NARS so I’m keeping this. I hope they offer mini size so I can have my summer color and my winter color. Great for the winter as I tend to be drier and also love that it doesn’t settle into my eyes lines

My new favorite makeup product!!

I am simply obsessed with this. I got this just to try out because it has a clean, non pore clogging ingredients, and I did not think this would work so well. It’s SOO lightweight so you barely feel like you’re wearing any product yet it still has full coverage.

Easy to travel with and perfect coverage for me

On my 5th stick of this. It is perfect for days when I want a more natural look, and I can also build it up for slightly more coverage. None of my sticks have broken like some other reviewers experienced, which I am happy with. It does apply better with proper skin prep, and I use the Merit brush to blend it out. Great for travel as well.

Great full coverage concealer

Love that this is a foundation and concealer in 1 - I’ve had bad hormonal acne recently & was left with lots of scaring. This concealer is great when I’m doing a full face or just want to cover up my dark spots for a quick makeup look. Also love the range of colors in the deeper skin tones.

Perfect concealer!

So perfect, creases sometimes under your eyes if you don’t prep your skin enough and immediately set it. But, it is a perfect match for me and i love it so much!

Actually my skin tone

Only concealer that matches my actual skin tone and texture. I have incredibly dry skin with sensitive under eyes and this has not only been one of the few products that doesn’t cause breakouts but it’s actually the correct color.

Poor Design & bad store policys

I would have liked this product however it immediately fell out of the tube and into the drain in less than 24hrs... I tried to get a refund/replacement from the store and they said they couldn't do anything. Ridiculous.

Lovely

This shade is perfect for my pale olive NC10 skin. Very blendable, works great with their brush #1, lasts until end of day and doesn’t cause any trouble for my sensitive skin. A nice everyday workhorse.

Faculty container BEWARE

Honestly, the product was great to use for the first few times. The formula was creamy and easy to blend, and I really liked how it looked on my skin. Unfortunately, after about five uses, the concealer stick completely came out of the tube and fell to the floor. I thought it was just a one-off issue with mine, but a friend who also bought it said the exact same thing happened to her. For the price, this definitely shouldn’t be happening. Very disappointed.

I wanted to switch up my foundation and holy moly, I am so glad I tried this!!! I have oily, acne prone skin and I wanted to stick with a cream foundation. This makeup is so lightweight, you forget you’re wearing it!! It also helps to hide my shine from oil. At the end of the day, my makeup still looks flawless!

Excellent natural looking foundation and concealer; good shade match for light skin with olive undertones and very natural finish and coverage. Easy to apply (I blend out with a buffing brush). I’m taking one star off because it doesn’t last a long time

Very good product- bad packaging!

I loved it but then my concealer stick broke! Poor product design. The product itself was so good. I don’t think I’ll be buying it again, as it is such a disappointment to find it broken one day out of nowhere ! I wish it was more sturdy!

Great travel stick

Super rare when I find a stick foundation that doesn’t look cakey. Little goes a long way, buildable, and perfect for traveling. Oak shade has more golden colour although it doesn’t look yellow.

I typically go for warm undertones in foundations and concealers but this line definitely runs warm overall. Bone is the perfect shade for me. I find it applies best if you blend it out with a brush

Broke during application- brand new stick!

This is the only foundation/concealer stick that I use on a daily basis. It’s probably one of my favorite products that I’ve purchased HOWEVER, the last time I bought it, the tube broke while I was applying it. I heard past reviews that it was happening before, but it didn’t happen to me u til recently.

Extremely oily, does not set with powder well.

Nice product but not worth the price. Very oily and sets weirdly with powder. Without powder will slide around on the face, separate and crease. Very radiant when first applied.

My new must have! The best for older skin!

Simply the best foundation I have found thus far! I’m a young 65 and when using other foundations ( even super expensive ones ) the results have always been the same, in that it settles into fine lines and wrinke. Not this one, it gives decent coverage with out looking cakes. It’s so easy to blend with the Merit brush and gives off a very natural finish which is what I was going for. My new go to. Exaggerates Imperfections

The wayyyyy I kept trying to make this foundation stick work. Deciding after about a month of trying different application techniques, it’s time to chunk. This product does not blend well WHATSOEVER. I literally feel like it sits on top of my skin, drying attention to little peach fuzz, pores and wrinkles. Not good at all.

Not for dry skin

I used this product a few times trying to give it the benefit of the doubt. However, in the end it doesn’t work for me. It is way too drying giving me a cakey and flakey look. I will say the rosacea coverage was good and buildable, i just wish it had more hydrating ingredients.

ridiculously flawed packaging. second time opening the whole stick flew out of the tube after pulling the cap off and landed on the floor and tried to salvage. what is left of the product is fine but not sure about a repurchase

After application it blends well and looks very skin like! The shade match is very spot on. But I wouldn’t recommend for oily skin/textured skin. After a few hrs of wear, it can become patchy looking and coverage fades a bit.

This product is true to its name - it’s the perfect stick to use for a quick touch up or for the perfect base. I’ve now purchased my second and continue to love the coverage and glow.

Great coverage. For me this is more of a spot concealer, not a full coverage foundation to use all over. But it works great covering any pigmentation under a lighter coverage skin tint. Blends better with a sponge vs a brush. I’ll buy again.

Uneven, settles badly, and creases

Unfortunately, this settles in any wrinkles and creases and is really unflattering because of it. It works ok for covering hormonal blemish breakout if I carefully tap it on with a brush, but for my under eyes, it’s awful. Drying. I’m 42, almost 43, for context.

Dry, patchy and ugly in textured areas

Creamy formula, but sinks into pores, is patchy and just overall doesnt sit right on my skin. On smooth areas (like cheeks) it works ok, but the textured areas (undereye, smile lines) are just awful & cake facey. I dont know how everyone else likes it. Maybe my skin is too dry. The ONLY way to make this work in those areas is to put something w a lot of grease on my face before application (like Jones Road WTF, Danessa Dewy Cheek Balm.. or several swipes of balm).

Not “clean” as marketed

When I tried on the Minimalist in-store, I immediately loved the coverage and finish and impulsively purchased it. After just one use I broke out, then read the ingredients list and was very disappointed to learn how “unclean” it is with multiple silicones and other ingredients. I felt duped by the “clean” label.

I was worried I’d have difficulty blending this in not being able to imagine a stick formula could be made as creamy as it is. Truly easier to blend out than liquid formulas and it blurs my skin beautifully. I’m still shocked. Wonderful product

Great lightweight creamy concealer.

This creamy product goes on gently, covers and lightens where needed. Ive been using it as under eye concealer. It’s very soft, not cacky, light weight and covers very naturally. No issue with my sensitive skin. Love it

Buying my 3rd stick!

I’ve been using this since Merit first launched in Sephora. I have combo acne prone skin (oily-normal-dry) living in Texas humid weather and the produce sit beautifully. I haven’t found anything better.

A new favorite!

I absolutely *love* this new stick!! I saw an influencer recommend it for 40+ and also said it was clean. I love it for both of those reasons and more! It doesn't seem to create as many lines under my eyes, and I LOVE that it doubles as both a foundation AND a concealer! My only concern is how long it will last. I haven't used my first one up yet, but I seem to be going through it rather quickly and it's not the cheapest. I'm hoping that the fact that I won't need to buy a concealer anymore...

Love the product, but the packing needs improvement. The first time I got it, the whole thing came out as soon as I opened it. I exchanged it for a new one, and after a few uses, I came out again. So disappointing because it’s such a great product.

Cakey on me

I have noticed as I now find myself in my late 30s, makeup does not look the same on my skin. I've been trying new products & continuing my search for something light coverage, non-comedogenic and doesn't get cakey. I was hoping this was it, but it's not. I'm not even half way through my work day and this product is so cakey. It truly looks awful.

Great for us ladies 40+ years of age

I’ve been tinkering with this concealer to see how to use this best. After applying this concealer, I set it with Laura Mercier translucent powder. No build up in my fine lines, not visible that I used any concealer. It covers my dark circles an in the end we want a concealer to look as if we didn’t need it at all. Great product but doesn’t work with a lot of powders.

SO GLAD they finally released more shades as I have been wanting this concealer after trying out my friends with a darker shade. I’m VERY pale with rose undertones so finding a concealer light enough and not just being white is difficult. My only complaint is that the packaging is almost messy. The stick tends to break inside the packaging and causes some smudging around the inside and can get on things.

A fail.

After using this product the last few week, I’m really dissapointed. I wanted to love it, but unfortunately it looked cakey, and broke me out. It blends beautifully, but after a short time it sits on top of the skin in the worst way.

Flawed packaging

The product itself is good, however I didn’t get to fully test it due to the packaging breaking. I wanted to wear it for at least a week before fully deciding if I like it. But the packaging broke after just a few uses, making it unusable. The part the lid clicks into stuck in the cap and it is unable to be stored now. Luckily Sephora refunded, but it’s still a bummer. Wont be purchasing again.

Very cakey, did not stay

Tried this as I was looking for a new concealer. Heard good things about it and decided to give it a try. I have dark, textured, and dry under eyes this product did not do anything for me. It did not cover my dark under eye circles. It dried out fast and was unblendable. It caked so bad that no amount of primer, setting powder or setting spray ever made it stay. Would not recommend.

Bad packaging good product

The product provides great coverage, is a good creamy consistency, and is easy to blend. However, after 1 week of using the product, the foundation stick starting falling out of the container after taking off the lid. This damages the product and gets your space/bag very messy. Not for my lightly textured skin.

Color is a great match but the texture of this did not work on my skin. I am 52 with light texture, nothing dramatic or noticeable, unless the foundation isn't complimentary. And this one isn't. Was disappointed for sure.

Major packaging issues

I really like this product but there seems to be a major packaging issue - I opened it and the whole product flew out of the stick (and right into the toilet, which is my problem, but extremely unfortunate). It was basically brand new, I'd only used it a few times - very disappointing!

Wow

Perfect for all year around. This foundation doesn’t feel like you have anything on your face. The color payoff is perfection. I have extremely oily skin and dare Insay by the end of the day I did not look like I had a oil slick. I can’t say enough good about this foundation stick . It will forever be a staple in my makeup bag.

I was so surprised with this product. I have oily skin and the occasional breakout. I needed an everyday concealer that blends easilty with just clean fingers and this product IS IT ! August heat survivor!

I bought it for an outdoor wedding in August. It sat beautifully on my skin all night. It sat well with my Elf primer and One Size setting spray. Easy to use and is not too heavy at all.

Most natural looking finish

This exceeded my expectations. The texture is thicker like a balm versus typical liquid . It blended beautiful, and I loved the finish , it was perfectly natural looking, lasted all day.

The Merit concealer is amazing! The shade is a perfect match for my skin tone, and it blends effortlessly for a natural look. A new staple in my beauty routine

I have rosacea and this little stick is fabulous for covering blemishes or red or dark marks on skin. I blend it in with a concealer brush and it’s perfection. Highly recommend and so much better than having to slather on a bunch of concealer or foundation. Creamy and easy to blend.

Can't nail the undertone

I love the whole concept, but struggle with the shades. I have tried this in Linen, Dune, and Sandstone. Linen is supposed to be neutral, but I found it to be extremely warm. Dune is cool, but too dark, or something. A Sephora person thought Sandstone (neutral) would be my perfect shade, but they are forever trying to warm me up. It's too yellow to look natural on me. The Uniform in 26 Dune/ Sandstone (neutral/cool) is also too warm. I would love to use these products if I could get the color right!

For the lazy minimalist

Yes! I needed a something that’s quick and lightweight. Especially for a quick 5-10 mins makeup for workdays. Love love love. I will be repurchasing this.

Very impressed

I was pleasantly surprised with this product. It’s the perfect everyday foundation and it leaves my skin looking hydrated and healthy.

I like this! It’s not perfect but for me it’s an everyday perfect quick foundation choice. It is a bit on the slick side. But I like it better than some cream sticks that are drying. I also feel like it’s very easy to match colors.

Waaaaaay too yellow

Extremely light weight coverage - barely detectable. If that’s what you want, this is your product. This stick did not provide enough coverage for me. More importantly, this color is supposed to be for medium, cool undertones. If that is the case, I’m the Pope. The description is so far from the light, warm shade Jute is! I find it absolutely bizarre that so many cosmetic companies are moving their shade range to all shades being yellow or orange based. Even Lancome and Estee Lauder! ...

Not recommended

As a super pale girl, this product comes out yellowy on skin if you’re pale. Also no kind to oily skin, cakes up and looks just off after a few hours.

Great for oily skin

I have pretty oily skin (and it probably doesn't help that I live in hot Arizona), so when I used a liquid tinted moisturizer before my skin would get soooooo greasy. I really love this stick because it has the perfect amount of coverage for me but it's also buildable and blends really well with other products. It’s an amazing all in one product! I don’t need a separate concealer when I use it. Buildable, creamy, natural! I use in to a spot conceal on no makeup days and use it as a foundation as well as concealer for a full face of makeup. Very versatile and hence best for travel too. Love love love it!

Light coverage essential

My favorite light coverage concealer. I bought it because of a girl who talked about it on youtube. I only put 4 stars because it is more suitable for minor imperfections and give more highlights on the skin. It doesnt get cakey so I love using it for my lighter makeup days

Maybe the worst makeup product I have ever tried

This was the worst foundation I have ever tried, and it isn't even close. The formula was dry and irritating to my skin. It looked cakey and was difficult to spread out with a beauty blender and brush alike. After a few weeks of giving the product a fair shot, the foundation fell straight out of the tube. It's actually amazing how bad this was for me.

My favorite foundation

I can literally do my makeup in 5 mins thanks to this foundation. It blends so smoothly (use merit’s brush too!), and the shade match is perfect. I don’t use any other products like concealer because this is honestly all I need. Perfect for travel too!!

My every-day staple!

This is my staple. It's so easy to use. I just put it anywhere on my face, spray my sponge with setting spray, blend everything out. It lasts the whole day and looks so natural. I love that I can travel with it easily and the shade range allows me to pack a darker shade on vacation in case I tan. Love!

Great for a Natural Look

This is a great concealer for a no makeup, makeup look. I have tried so many different concealers from drug store to high end and this blends so flawlessly with my natural skin as I use it to spot conceal with no other makeup. I would say it is lower medium coverage.

I barley ever find a product that matches my skin tone so well (it doesnt match as well on my arm as it does on my face trust me its better) Its very convenient and easy to use, I definitely prefer a spongeover a brush to blend it.

Warning - product is defective.

Be warned: this costly product is contained in a defective container and will likely fall out of the container onto the floor. There are many complaints about this defect. Merit is non-responsive about addressing it. Get another concealer from another company in a secure container.

Lazy Makeup Love

I'm lazy with makeup and I love this product. So much that this is my first sephora review! It goes on so smooth and blends easily with just your fingers. It's "buildable " (as the pros say) so you can go light coverage all over or hide those pesky blemishes. I gave up using foundation years ago and this is the only one I'll ever use now.

Holy Grail

I’m a very, very pale gal. For years I have struggled to find complexion products that work for the coverage (full but not cakey), finish (natural), and undertones (cool) that I’m looking for, but this is it. Brush application is best (tried with fingers and beauty blender and it was so so). Absolutely love how this makes me look.

Packaging nightmare

I’ve been using this product for a few weeks and while I’ve enjoyed it, I don’t think it’s worth the price and risk. My biggest issue is the packaging. Within a few weeks of owning it, it’s completely fallen out of the package. I tried to save it but the second time it fell out , I gave up.

I love this for my everyday makeup routine. Works well under makeup. I use this as a foundation but also a concealer over top of other foundation. Sometimes I find it gets greasy but overall I really like it.

Worth taking the chance on!!

I’ve been on the fence about purchasing this for quite some time due to some reviews saying it can get patchy or creases. I’m sooo glad I finally pulled the trigger and bought this. It looks and feels like a second skin!! Buildable coverage, easy to blend, multipurpose, and by no means drying as long as you prep your skin properly. I have a feeling I’ll be repurchasing again and again.

My ideal concealer

I have big eyes, and for some reason that means a lot of fine lines. My eyes are also sensitive and most concealers dry everything out. I was blown away by this, I wear iconic London primer underneath and it loos so natural. My new favorite!!

Too dry!! Not blend-able at all. I wanted to try because of its clean ingredients but it really fell short.

I really like this product if you’re going for a very natural look, I usually do like a soft glam so this was nice. I usually use Nars concealer, but I just got this the other day so I started to use it and not my favorite wood definitely maybe by again

I saw this product recommended by TikToker Elli Freeman on her instagram, and decided to give it a try. It’s so worth it! I’ve tried many foundations & concealers to hide my acne and dark circles, while also not looking feeling too heavy. Definitely worth the purchase!

Just get it.

So so nice and smooth on the skin, I struggle with hyperpigmentation around my lips (yellow+dark spots) and this covered it up WONDERFULLY without making it look like I have stuff caked around my mouth.
